Bacterial resistance to antimicrobial botanicals

Introduction: Bacterial antibiotic resistance is a serious and growing phenomenon in contemporary medicine and has emerged as one of the eminent public health concerns of the 21st century. Botanical extracts with antibacterial activity are widely used in alternative medicine to treat bacterial infections. Previous research by our group has shown that bacteria can develop resistance to antimicrobial botanicals. Our current research sought to determine the mechanism by which bacteria develop resistance to medicinal botanicals.
