Immunosuppressive effect of Cannabis sativa L. extract on human primary lymphocytes

Introduction: Traditionally cannabis has been used in many cultures for the treatment of various diseases including inflammatory autoimmune diseases. Despite Its medicinal benefits, the mechanism of action is still poorly understood. Its psychoactive side effects outweigh its potential therapeutic benefits, therefore increasing interest to evaluate the beneficial effect of Cannabis sativa L. extract (CSE) with no or low Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol content. This study aims to investigate the immunosuppressive effect of standardized CSE related to its cannabidiol (CBD) content on primary human T lymphocytes function.
