Dr Annemarie Abbing

Annemarie Abbing studied anthroposophic art therapy at the University of Applied Sciences (UAS) Leiden (1997-2001) and Veterinary Medicine at Utrecht University (2001-2005), with a specialization in large animals and veterinary public health. After obtaining her master's degree, she joined the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality as a research coordinator.

In 2010, she became a fundraiser and project developer at UAS Leiden. Soon, she started to work on research projects as well. In 2013, she started her part time PhD project, which she finished in 2019. In January 2020, she successfully defended her PhD Thesis "Art therapy & Anxiety". Annemarie holds a temporary postdoc position at the Open University, and also continues her research on art therapy & anxiety at the UAS Leiden. She published several scientific papers in peer reviewed journals, and contributed to art therapy education and practice by publications of articles and presentations on scientific congresses and for professional organizations.
